If you live in Waterloo and you're thinking about a bungalow, you probably want to stay close to what you know: your church, your doctor, your grandkids, your walking route. So the real question is, how many bungalows are there in the city right now, and what do they cost?
This guide looks only at the City of Waterloo (not the whole region). How many bungalows are for sale, where they are, what they cost, what you get, and what is hard to find. Just the numbers, no guesses about where prices are going.

What you get
Styles. 33 are the classic one-floor bungalow. 14 are raised bungalows, where the main floor sits up a half flight of stairs, so check the steps if stairs are the reason you're moving. Only 2 are bungalofts, with a loft upstairs for guests and the main bedroom on the main floor.
Garages. 22 have a single garage, 15 a double, and 3 have room for three cars or more. 4 have no garage, and 5 don't say. Want a double? Start with the Waterloo double car garage bungalow map.
Freehold or condo. 41 are freehold. Only 4 are condominium bungalows, and all 4 are townhouse-style. The other 4 are the land-lease homes. See the condo ones on the Waterloo condo and townhouse bungalow map.
Size. 27 of the 49 have 1,001 to 1,500 square feet on the main floor (above grade). 9 are under 1,000 square feet, and 6 are over 2,000.
Basements. 46 have a full basement, which is handy for guests, storage or a hobby room.
Laundry. At least 13 list laundry on the main level. Many listings leave that field blank, so ask about it on any home you like.
What's hard to find in Waterloo right now
Newer bungalows. Only 3 of the 49 are listed as 15 years old or newer. 22, almost half, are listed as more than 50 years old. If you want a newer home with no big projects, expect a short list.
Condo bungalows. Just 4 condo bungalows are for sale in the whole city, all between $600,000 and $800,000. If you want someone else to cut the grass and clear the snow, it pays to be ready when one comes up.
The middle-upper price range. Only 10 bungalows are priced between $800,000 and $1.2 million. And of the 18 with a double garage or bigger, only 9 are under $900,000.
